Heba Hafez Paints Intricate Patterns in Elemental Realms at Agora Gallery
Press release from: Agora Gallery
(openPR) - Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature Egyptian artist, Heba Hafez, in Elemental Realms. The exhibition is scheduled to run from February 02, 2010 through February 23, 2010 (opening reception: Thursday, February 04, 2010).
Personal and poignant, Egyptian artist Heba Hafez paints with an unusual amount of awareness and sincerity. Layers of thought are transformed into imagery rich with meaning as she responds to the world around her. These are daring artworks, orchestrated with an inventive visual language that is being developed in her mind each day. "Society is my muse and a close companion, whether we are at peace or at war with one another." Correspondingly we find a variety of subjects, intricate patterns and symbols alongside references to religion, history, and modern pop culture. Hafez pours her whole self into her work; each piece is so radically different it seems as if we get to know the artist all over again. Some works may approach pure abstraction while others display an artist with an impeccable talent for rendering the human form in an expressive and soulful manner. Hafez’s original motifs, surrealist landscapes, and figural deconstruction are conveyed in a way that celebrates life’s profound mysteries. Hafez lives and works in Cairo.
Exhibition Dates: February 02, 2010 – February 23, 2010
Reception: Thursday, February 04, 2010, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Gallery Location: 530 West 25th St, New York City
Gallery Hours: Tues – Sat, 11a.m. - 6 p.m.
Influenced by a range of sources, from Native American to the masters of Western Art, the works collected in Elemental Realms explore not only the world we live in, but also the world that lives within each of us. Through inventive forms or unusual experimentation with media, these artists speak about a harmony with nature, personal awareness, and a delight in the timeless rhythms of life.
