(openPR) - LANXESS at the EAW 2010 (Everything About Water) trade fair in Chennai, India, January 7 to 9
At the (Everything About Water) EAW Expo 2010, specialty chemicals group LANXESS will showcase its high-performance ion exchange resins for the fields of industrial water treatment, catalysis, chemical processes and food. For example, with Lewatit MonoPlus S 108 and Lewatit MonoPlus S 108 H, the Ion Exchange Resins business unit will present a new generation of gel-type cation exchange resins for industrial water treatment. LANXESS will produce both products on an industrial scale in Bitterfeld from April 2010.
In addition, LANXESS is currently constructing a new ion exchange resins plant in Jhagadia, Gujarat state of India. The new will plant will supply high-performance Lewatit products used in more than 600 applications worldwide. In terms of investment volume this is the biggest project undertaken by LANXESS’ Ion Exchange Resins business unit since the end of the 1990s when it built the new production facility in Bitterfeld. “We are the only company in the ion exchange industry that invested within ten years in two new world-scale plants, first the one in Bitterfeld and now the one in Jhagadia,” says Dr. Michael Zobel, head of the Ion Exchange Resins business unit.
Presentation on ion exchange resins for biodiesel purification
At the congress taking place in parallel to the EAW fair, Dr. Rudolf Wagner, Manager of Technical Applications in the Ion Exchange Resins business unit, will give a presentation on “the utilization of ion exchange resins for the purification of biodiesel and as catalysts for the esterification of free fatty acids”. For example, Lewatit GF 202 is capable of producing biodiesel qualities compliant with the European standard EN 14214 without having to utilize a costly water-wash or once-use filtration aids. The product significantly simplifies production and is extremely efficient in removing impurities that damage engines such as glycerine, soap, and salts. The performance of Lewatit GF 202 was successfully proven in a cross-country vehicle with its own biodiesel production unit on board that went on a 60,000-kilometer-long trip around the world. The fuel exclusively comprised used cooking oil and fat that was collected from restaurants, canteens, and snack bars along the way. More information on the project can be found at www.biodieseladventure.com.
In a second presentation, Wagner will explore “new approaches to the removal of trace impurities from aqueous solutions with adsorber resins”.
