Gnuaccounting 0.7.2 comes with installer, extended database support
Press release from: usegroup
Alzey, Germany, 2009-12-13.
The new version of the Free Invoicing - and Accounting software will be released on 2009-12-16 08:00 C.E.T and is shipped with a Windows(r)(tm) installer and supports more databases such as PostgreSQL.
Up to 0.7.2 the user had to manually extract the Gnuaccounting archive. The Windows(r)(tm) version of Gnuaccounting now offers an installer/uninstaller with start menu integration.
The possibility to use company-wide database installations might be interesting for a central backup or for the simultaneous use of the same data from different workstations. So far, this possibility was restricted to one database management system. This has now been extended by the migration to the "hibernate" persistency abstraction layer: the new version additionally supports PostgreSQL, Oracle, DB2, Informix and Interbase. So far tests have only been conducted on MySQL und PostgreSQL.
Other new features in 0.7.2:
* Groupware-Integration: Gnuaccounting can be configured to send ICAL-Reminders to the transaction sender. E-Mailing the recipient with PDF- and OBDX-files has been possible for a long while. The ICAL-Reminders help to check the payment on the due date and integrate with groupwares like Kolab, Google Calendar, Microsoft (r)(tm) Exchange/Outlook and Lotus Notes. Tests have so far been conducted with Kolab and Outlook Web Access.
* Support for receipts and shipping tickets. So far these transaction types were not supported.
Gnuaccounting is an Open Source and can be downloaded for free. As compensation we ask for community contributions for example as tester, developer or translator. Please sign up for the according mailing list lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/gnuaccounting-devel .
Background: Gnuaccounting is an Open Source Java invoicing and accounting software. For the generations of reports, invoices etc. it integrates an existing OpenOffice.org installation. It supports online chip card banking via HBCI and exports e.g. VAT announcements to Winston. It was first released on 25-03-2005.
The software is available in English and German. It can be used as a portable application and ships with an integrated database (HSQLDB) but can very well be configured to use databases like MySQL or PostgreSQL.
Supported platforms are 32 bit Windows(r)(tm) (XP, Vista, 7) and 32 and 64 bit KDE based Linux systems e.g. Kubuntu.
