Leading Independent Presidential Contender Imperato Speaks Out on Former Iranian President Khatami's U.S. Visit

Press release from: Imperato-Brooks 2008
West Palm Beach, FL – September 7, 2006 – Today, leading Independent Presidential candidate Daniel Imperato, addressed growing concerns over U.S. policy toward Iran and former Iranian President Khatami's visit to the United States. Speaking on Mr. Khatami's visit with former Vice-President Jimmy Carter, Imperato said "The people of the United States should be aware of what is going on with Iran and the international fallout surrounding its nuclear development program."

Imperato observed that "The United States has boxed itself into a foriegn policy dilemma. Increasingly we have few options to deal with Iran. Thus the U.S. is engaging in intimidation and putting pressure on Ahmadinejad with the threat of war. On the other hand, the European Union is hoping for further dialogue, while Ahmadinijad stands off and plays the role of the tough guy."

"While Iran is being targeted as a country that is sponsoring terrorists, the U.S. is welcoming former Iranian President Khatami," said Imperato. Acknowleding that he is a gifted politician, Imperato said "Khatami is offering himself up as a peacemaker; and liaison between the U.S. and Iran. The timing of his visit is interesting, because Iraqi Prime Minister al Maliki said if Iraq cannot be controlled, he will allow other countries to come into the country. As a Presidential candidate I believe Khatami was sent here indirectly to manipulate the U.S. administration by positioning himself to broker a deal in Iraq."

Turning to Iran's wider objectives, in the region Imperato commented that "Iran wants to dominate the Middle East and control the lion's share of its oil. When Saddam Hussien was in power, the Iranians feared Iraq. so they stood down. With Saddam deposed, they have positioned themselves to squeeze the United States with the threat of developing nuclear weapons, while they slip into the back door in Iraq." Further Imperato said the biggest mistake the U.S. made was destroying the Iraqi army. He added, "The second mistake was not cutting a deal with Saddam Hussien to call for his country to stand down in exchange for peace."

Imperato noted that the United States ability to contain Iran's muscle flexing has been further complicated by Russia and China. He said "They are working together to support the ambitions of Ahmadinejad and Iran. All this is occurring while the United States hands are tied in Iraq and Israel." Pointing to further problems in the region Imperato warned that "The U.S. is not paying attention to the recent Sudan revolt and the terrorists takeover in Somalia. These activities are leading the region to become the third hot spot for terrorists to control failed states."

Imperato concluded his remarks by saying " I hope and pray that I have a chance to represent the people of the USA in this crucial situation. We as Americans, and leaders of the free world need to immediately support the opposition party who is crying out to the U.S. and the world that Iran and the Iranians need jobs, food, an education. We need to support Iranian opposition forces that are against the false promises made by Ahmadinejad."
