Swiss Federal Railways SBB give Supplier Award 2009 to software house HaCon
Press release from: HaCon Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH
Hanover/Bern. The Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) has now awarded the Hanover-based software company HaCon with the SBB Best Supplier Award 2009 in the category "information technologies”. On the first corporate group wide supplier day HaCon managing director Peter Talke, representative for the entire team, received the prize of SBB CIO Peter Kummer. The supplier day on November 12th was held in the framework of the Trade Fair for the Public Transport “suissetraffic”.
Around 110 representatives of suppliers to the SBB had accepted the invitation of the group to share experience between purchasers and vendors. To these, SBB annually awards contracts worth around 3.8 billion francs (approximately 2.5 billion Euros). 15 percent of these go to companies outside of Switzerland. The 1,000 of a total of 14,500 foreign suppliers in 2008 include the software specialist HaCon.
Since 1994 HaCon ensures that millions of SBB customers every day have access to the online timetable worldwide. Since 1989, the SBB is one of the customers of HaCon, specialist in solutions for traffic. Main product of HaCon is the timetable information system HAFAS, which is deployed in many European railways and transport associations and is used internationally for timetable information on the Internet, on mobile devices and in printing.
HAFAS is basis of the online timetable information of SBB. Thus HaCon delivers a decisive contribution to maintaining the stability of the Internet application. For many years HaCon has been known for its excellent service and proactive suggestions to improve the SBB customer information. Decisive criteria for the award in all eight categories were price, quality, punctuality and service.
"We are very proud to receive this special award," says HaCon managing director Peter Talke and his five colleagues on top management level. "The recognition for the outstanding achievements of our team by a very demanding customer shows us that with our products and our services we are on the right track."
Another prize winner in the category "information technologies” is the Swiss ELCA Informatique SA, a leader in software development, systems integration and business consulting. SBB rely on the SecuTix technology by ELCA to make the control of its mobile phone and print@home tickets safer and easier.
Right from the start in 1984 HaCon has focused its activities on traffic and logistic solutions. A team of more than 120 experienced employees in the ranges of IT and transport planning have turned the company into one of the leading players in the field of planning, scheduling and information systems.
HaCon has developed and implemented the timetable information system of Deutsche Bahn (German Railway). Furthermore, numerous European railway companies, transport enterprises and/or groups use the timetable information system HAFAS. In addition, HAFAS serves as a universal information system. Therefore, it can be applied in the flight and goods traffic as well. One of the latest products developed by HaCon is TPS, a system for train planning and timetable management that has convinced customers across Europe.
