Germany’s unique music search engine SEMSIX goes international

Press release from: creativ[e]nglish

SEMSIX, the unique music search engine launched in Germany earlier this year, is now also available in English at semsix.com.

SEMSIX searches the music databases of a number of big video platforms and then filters, sorts and displays music by artist and album in an original way. The free web application was developed by the Stuttgart-based student team of Martin Jakobus and Ingo Schock.

With SEMSIX everyone can search the biggest online video platforms for music easily and effectively. The search results are arranged clearly and the sources attributed to all videos. With the intelligent search function (which has nothing in common with a normal web search) everyone can quickly find complete albums on the video platforms, create playlists and listen to music.

In addition, SEMSIX evaluates the quality of music videos and lists the best video for a specific song first. For instance, an official music video will always be preferred to a mobile phone recording. A playlist can be saved and sent to friends with a link.

SEMSIX is also useful when one can’t remember the name of a song or an artist. With the built-in lyrics search one can find a song by entering a few words from the lyrics. All songs can be listened to immediately. The lyrics of the song being played, is displayed simultaneously. Web radios around the world can be searched and listened to for new music, or interesting artists. It can be done by station name, music genre or by the city in which a station is based. To top it all up, SEMSIX will suggest more songs which fit the music taste of the user.

SEMSIX was developed to search for music on video platforms in a novel way and to arrange the results as user-friendly as possible. For that reason, Adobe Flex was chosen as the development framework, making it possible to use SEMSIX in all popular browsers without having to install anything else. Furthermore, no registration and login is required to use SEMSIX. Everyone can immediately find and listen to his favorite songs.

Currently, SEMSIX searches the video platforms YouTube, Vimeo, MyVideo and sevenload for music videos. The meta information of the albums and artists are drawn from the music database MusicBrainz. The lyrics of songs are provided by lyricsfly and searched with Yahoo. The radio databank Radio Time is used for the web radio search and suggestions for more songs come from LastFM.
