Perle IOLAN Console Servers, in conjunction with Remote Power Switches, provide safe and continuous operation of networked gear with new Ping Probe Watchdog functionality
Press release from: Perle Systems
(openPR) - The Ping Probe Watchdog functionality provides continuous 7/24 monitoring of equipment with automated power cycle recovery should equipment become unresponsive to periodic ping probes.
NASHVILLE, TN—November 6, 2009— Perle Systems, the global developer and manufacturer of serial to Ethernet connectivity solutions, announces the first and only Console Server to provide a Ping Probe Watchdog feature. Any piece of equipment on the LAN can be continuously monitored with periodic ping probes. When a device is unresponsive a corrective action, in the form of an automatic power-cycle, is initiated through an attached Perle Remote Power Switch..
In remote branch locations, it is imperative that IT equipment remain up and running at all times. This could be a local file server, POS, accounting, CRM or an ERP system. A ping probe, which is a standards-based ICMP echo request packet, is simple tool that exists to test the availability of Ethernet based equipment. If a device does not respond in a timely fashion to a ping probe sent to its Ethernet port, there is a good chance that the equipment has failed. Resolution and recovery can be made through access by administrators via an Out-of-Band connection to its serial console port or an automated watchdog device can monitor and then take corrective action as soon as a problem occurs.
Perle IOLAN Console Servers in conjunction with attached Perle RPS remote power switches can automatically power cycle equipment when the target device on the LAN fails to respond to periodic ping probes from the IOLAN.
“The Ping Probe Watchdog feature gives you the peace of mind that downtime of your networked equipment will be minimal.” Says Julie Mc Daniel, Vice President Marketing at Perle Systems. “As soon as the device is detected as unresponsive, the power cycle takes place and normal operation can resume.”
