(openPR) - With the ink barely dry on his deal with one of the UK’s leading jazz labels Candid Records, Dubliner Cormac Kenevey released his debut album This Is Living on Friday June 9th 2006.

Now he brings his unique blend of melody and rhythm to Galway in a special Galway Jazz Festival (Oct 13-15 2006) fundraising concert in the Town Hall Theatre on August 11th.

Cormac will be joined by that ever-cohesive musical unit the Phil Ware Trio, comprising Phil Ware (Piano), Dave Redmond (Bass) and Kevin Brady (Drums).

Having built a well-earned reputation as a leading performer of both originals and the popular songbook, Kenevey’s mature delivery and heartfelt interpretations display a great regard for the key jazz artists whom he cites as major influences. Mel Tormé, Frank Sinatra and Mark Murphy all feature, as well as the more contemporary influences of Kurt Elling and Al Jarreau.

His debut album, This Is Living is a result of his collaboration with highly respected UK pianist Phil Ware and his Trio with whom Kenevey has developed a working live group. The repertoire chosen for the project is embellished by the newly written horn arrangements by Ware. As well as a selection of personal favourites, the twelve track collection features original compositions by Kenevey including the lead track Just a Day which explores narration over vocal groove layering. The record boasts an accomplished production crew including Grammy® award-winning mastering engineer, Bob Katz.

The Galway Jazz Festival, will be held on the weekend of October 13 to 15 2006. Building on the success of the inaugural event in 2005 the Galway Jazz Festival programme for 2006 will feature a broad range of leading contemporary international, national and local jazz artists in concerts and workshop performances.

According to Galway Jazz Festival Musical Director Damian Evans the aim is “to open the art form that is jazz up to a wider audience by bringing the best of local and international artists to Galway with the aim of developing an awareness of jazz music and composition as an art form.’
